In mechanical engineering, a key is a machine element used to connect a rotating machine element to a shaft. The key prevents relative rotation between the two parts and may enable torque transmission. For a key to function, the shaft and rotating machine element must have a keyway, which is a slot or pocket in which the key fits. The whole system is called a keyed joint.
Commonly keyed components include gears, pulleys, and couplings.
Common problems include distortion due to mechanical damage and general wear.
All types of keyways, from the common rectangular type to the Gib Head, Feather or Woodruff can be rebuild with Belzona 1111 (Super Metal). The procedure can be carried out in-situ and without application of heat. Immense savings are therefore realized.
We’ve attached a video showing how to perform this repair so please take a few minutes to watch it and then let us know how we can help you repair, protect and improve your machinery and equipment.
